SAN JOSE, Calif.— The San Jose State University women’s soccer team lost its third game in a row to visiting University of California Santa Barbara, 3-1, Thursday night. The win was the first for the Gauchos this season.

The game was close during the first half, the only goal being credited to UC Santa Barbara after the San Jose State defense put the ball in the Spartan net on an own goal. The Gauchos took control quickly in the second period when Brianna Pries scored at 45:24.

San Jose State scored its lone goal on Marie McCann’s shot at 54:10, but were unable to score again. The Gauchos managed to add one insurance goal to secure the win.

The loss gives the Spartans a 1-3-0 record, and will host Saint Mary’s Sunday, Sept. 23 for a 1:00 p.m. game.
