Pacific Defeats Gonzaga in the Bay Area adidas Classic Opener

The University of the Pacific won the opening match in the second annual Bay Area adidas Classic, defeating Gonzaga, 1-0, at Spartan Stadium Friday night.

Pacific forward Gabby Olivares scored the games only goal unassisted at 42:37. Olivares, a Gilroy, Calif. native, dominated the Tigers offense with eight shots in the game.

The Pacific defense held the Gonzaga Bulldogs to only nine shots in the game. The Tigers goalkeeper Cassondra Kaeding was credited with the shutout and ended the game with seven saves.

Pacific will play Northeastern Sunday at 11:00 a.m. on the final day of the tournament. Gonzaga will play San Jose State immediately following the conclusion of that game. Northeastern defeated the host team San Jose State, 5-3, in the second match of the evening.
