EL PASO, Texas--The San Jose State women's soccer team won over UTEP, 3-2, Friday night at University Field in El Paso.

UTEP's Miranda Cuthbertson deflected a ball into its own to help lift San Jose State to its second Western Athletic Conference win this year.

The Spartans' Jeane Sunseri took a shot on goal which was blocked by Cuthbertson in the 52nd minute. However Cuthbertson was misdirected on trying to clear the ball and it skipped past UTEP goal keeper Katie Gilmore.

UTEP had controlled the game the entire first half, leading 1-0 after Kelly Parker took a pass from Kat McShane in the 25th minute and knocked it past Spartan keeper Eryn Meyer.

Right before halftime, the Spartans evened the score and captured the momentum heading into the second half. The goal occurred off a corner kick by Kristina Jacob who connected with Cynthia Harrah who scored her first goal of the season in the 44th minute.

The Spartans came out firing in the second period going out on front when Marie McCann took advantage on a penalty kick in the 50th minute.

UTEP attempted a late rally adding a point on a penalty kick by Holly Cohen in the 77th minute.
