SAN JOSE, Calif.— The San Jose State women’s soccer team lost its first game of the Bay Area adidas Classic at Spartan Stadium, 5-3, Friday night. The Spartans rallied twice but were unable to hold the Huskies offense in an aggressive match.

The Huskies Liz Dyjack scored the first goal of the night, but was later countered by San Jose State’s Marie McCann second goal of the year. The Spartans trailed, 3-1, when the team’s leading scorer, Vanessa Afonso, scored her team leading third goal of the season.

The Spartans’ rally was cut short as Thompson scored her second goal of the match, followed by Michelle Carberry’s goal to give the Huskies a 5-2 lead.

The Spartans managed to score once more on Jessica Korpela’s first goal of the year, but were held by the Huskie defense. Northeastern goalkeeper Cynthia Slowic was credited with the win, giving the undefeated Huskies a 6-0-2 record on the season.
