USF Victorious Against the Spartan Women's Soccer Team in Double Overtime

SAN FRANCISCO-The San Jose State University women's soccer team lost in double overtime to the University of San Francisco, 2-1, in a non-conference match Tuesday night at Negoesco Stadium.

San Francisco's junior midfielder Caty Harris scored her first goal of the season for at the 106:49 mark in the second overtime period to beat the Spartans.

With the win, San Francisco, 6-5-1 overall, claims their third victory in four contests against San Jose State and their first win against the Spartans, 4-9-0 overall, since 1998.

San Jose State struck first in the early going on a goal by junior forward Kerry Blaschke at 7:52 off a through ball from sophomore defender Cynthia Harrah.

The Dons would strike back at 37:33 when junior midfielder Kirsteen Buchan found the back of the net for the equalizer on a diagonal pass from junior forward Stacey Caro. For Buchan it was her second goal of the season.

After playing evenly in the first half, USF dictated tempo in the second half and held a commanding 11-1 advantage in shots in the period, but could not convert the opportunities to goals. Once in the first overtime period, the Spartans and the Dons each recorded a pair of shots to no avail, forcing double overtime setting the stage for Harris in the 108th minute of action.

USF sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Orantes collected the victory allowing one goal while recording four saves on six shots. Freshman Spartans' keeper Eryn Meyer suffered the loss for San Jose State allowing a pair of goals while making seven saves on 18 USF attempts.

The Spartans will host the University of Nevada, 0-10-1 overall and 0-1-1 in Western Athletic Conference games, this Friday at Spartan Stadium. The match begins at 5:00 p.m.
