2017 Women's Soccer Schedule

A new era of San José State women’s soccer begins this fall as 2017 marks the first season playing at the new Spartan Soccer Complex at South Campus. The Spartans will host UC Santa Barbara in their first match on the new field on Sunday, August 20, at 2:30 p.m. (PT).

“We are thrilled to have a state of the art soccer specific stadium for the first time this fall,” said Spartans’ head coach Lauren Hanson. “Thanks to the donors for recognizing the value of our soccer programs. We look forward to making this a very exciting, yet challenging environment for visiting teams to play in.”

Before it can set sights on the home opener SJSU begins the regular season across town at Santa Clara on August 18, at 7:30 p.m. (PT). The Broncos made it to the quarterfinals of last year’s NCAA Tournament and are the first of four Spartan opponents which made the NCAA Tournament in 2016.

San José State will meet reigning Big Sky Champion Eastern Washington on neutral ground in Missoula, Montana on August 25. Later, the Spartans host Georgetown (Sept. 3) which made it all the way to the NCAA Tournament semifinals in 2016.

The match against the Hoyas is part of a marquee six-game homestand that includes nonconference bouts with Rice (Sept. 1), Cal Poly (Sept. 8) and Saint Mary’s (Sept. 15). San José State closes the homestand with Mountain West matches against Utah State (Sept. 22) and Boise State (Sept. 24).

“Any time we can be at home in our comfort zone is ideal to develop a positive rhythm with our style,” Hanson said.

After playing nearly the entire month of September at home the Spartans take off on a four-game road trip with visits to Colorado State (Sept. 29), Wyoming (Oct. 1), San Diego State (Oct. 6) and New Mexico (Oct. 8).

Four of the last five regular-season matches will be played at home. Nevada comes to San Jose on October 13 followed by the reigning Mountain West champion UNLV Rebels on October 15.

Six seniors will play in the final match of their careers at home on October 27 against the rival Fresno State.

The top-six teams at the conclusion of the regular season will advance to the Mountain West Championship Tournament hosted last year’s champion UNLV. The tournament begins Tuesday, October 31, with the championship match set for Saturday, November 4.
