Fresno State Beats the Women's Soccer Team with Late Goal

SAN JOSE, Calif.—The Spartans women’s soccer team scored first, but were unable to capture a win against visiting Fresno State in their last home game of the season Thursday night. The Bulldogs’ Erin Sayegusa scored the game-winning goal with less than four minutes remaining in regulation to win, 2-1, at Spartans Stadium.

Jeane Sunseri scored the first goal of the game at the 81:58 mark to break a scoreless tie. The Bulldogs countered just over a minute later when Aimee Thompson beat out Spartan goalkeeper Eryn Meyer. Thompson would later feed the ball to Erin Sayegusa who scored the eventual game winner at 86:32.

The Spartans also honored the team’s seniors in a ceremony prior to the start of the game. The loss drops the Spartans’ record to 5-10-0 overall and 3-3-0 in the Western Athletic Conference. The team will travel to Boise State to play the Broncos on Sunday, Oct. 28. With the win, Fresno improves to 7-8-0 overall and 4-3-0 in WAC games.
