It was the San Jose State University women’s soccer team winning, 6-3, in the 2003 alumni game against 13 of the Spartans’ former players on Saturday, May 3 at the SJSU Soccer Fields.

Weather played a slight factor on the day, but did not deter the game and the surrounding festivities, which included a barbecue for fans and families. This year’s game also brought in $800 for the women’s soccer program.

From the first whistle the alumni played a pressure offense on the Spartans current squad, netting the first goal to take a 1-0 lead. A late offsides call against the alumni prevented a goal from being counted and a potential 2-0 lead.

The current Spartan squad took over adding three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead at the half.

Down 6-3 and time running out for the alumni, they incorporated a 13-player lineup. Despite the two-player advantage, the alumni were not able to score and fell by the final score of 6-3.

After the game, the team held the barbecue and raffle at the Simpkins Stadium Center.
