This Wednesday evening, May 10, San José State head women's soccer coach Lauren Hanson will be a featured panelist in a discussion on women transcending boundaries in their careers.

The collaborative Transcending Boundaries event put on by Peninsula Symphony and Leadership San Jose will be hosted at the Hotel De Anza on Santa Clara Street in downtown San Jose beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Hanson will join Rebecca Lipon Weekly of Intel Corporation and prominent Bay Area composer Nancy Bloomer Deussen on the panel to discuss transcending the boundaries in nontraditional industries.

"I am excited and thankful to be a part of this wonderful panel," Hanson said. "I look forward to sharing my experiences with various boundaries throughout my career and the routes I've taken to become of the very few female Division I women's soccer coaches."

Hanson is set to begin her fourth season as SJSU's head women's soccer coach. In her time at SJSU she has guided her student-athletes to a Mountain West Championship, 37 all-conference academic awards and multiple international soccer playing opportunities.

Hanson has international playing experiences of her own. She was a member of the 2001 United States Women's National Team after playing on the U-18 and U-21 U.S. women's national teams.

As Lauren Orlandos, Hanson enjoyed an illustrious playing career as a four-year centerback for Portland. She was a member of three Pilot teams to play in the NCAA Women's College Cup. The 2000 and 2001 clubs reached the semifinals, and she captained the 2002 Pilots to the program's first NCAA Women's College Cup championship.

The Transcending Boundaries event sponsored by Peninsula Symphony Orchestra begins at 5:30 p.m. and includes drinks and light bites and a classical music trio performance. Tickets for adults are $10, while students ages 14-18 get free admission. For more details head over to thesvo.com.
