Players, coaches, staff, friends and families of the San José State women's soccer program gathered over the weekend to celebrate another soccer season in the books. Not just any season, but a Mountain West Regular Season Championship season!

"It was a great celebration of the team and their hard work this past season," said Spartans head coach Lauren Hanson. "It's always fun to share the memories and show friends, family and supporters of the program how special this group of young women are."

The event included speeches from coaches and players, videos that captured the team's run to a regular season title and even an appearance from a special guest and friend of the program Megan Ropinoe.

Part of the celebration was the announcement of the 2017 team awards. Jamilecxth Becerra scored a team-leading seven goals, five of which were game-winners, and was named the offensive MVP. Beccera also took home the team's Rookie of the Year award.

Darriell Franklin was the 2017 Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year and was also given the team's Defensive Player of the Year on Saturday night. Karlee Pottorff was named Most Improved Player from the start to finish of 2017. Senior Sabrina Miller was honored as the Most Inspirational Player. This year's Coaches' Award was given to Yvette Cuellar and Aliyah Jones.

Six seniors were honored for their outstanding contributions to the program: Yaritza Arista, Yvette Cuellar, Dorthe Hoppius, Myia Wilkes, Sabrina Miller and Aliyah Jones. Hanson spoke to the talent and character of each senior before giving them a framed San José State uniform.

The celebration of another year gone by means the team now turns its sight toward the 2018 season. The team will begin preparing with spring matches in mid-March.
