San Jose, Calif. --- The San José State women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to UNLV in Mountain West action at Spartan Soccer Field on Friday afternoon.
San José State (8-7-2, 6-3-0 MW) outshot UNLV (9-9-0, 4-5-0) 13-10, but Denalli Murnan booted in the deciding goal in the 41st minute to hand the Spartans their second straight loss.
"We just came out flat," said Spartans' head coach Lauren Hanson. "Players were out of sync and we had no bite to our attack. We came out in the second half trying to find a way to score, and still couldn't finish our opportunities."
The Spartans threatened to tie the match multiple times late in the second half. Rachel Docherty kicked a hard line drive that cut through a group of players near the top of the box, but went straight into the hands of UNLV keeper Jessie Clark for one of her five saves.
Another golden chance was on Darriell Franklin's bender from the far right wing, which clanked off of the crossbar.
Spartans' keeper Paige Simoneau made her first start during conference play Friday in place of the injured Zoe Makrigiannis. Simoneau, a freshman, made three saves but fell to 0-3-0 on the season.
The loss drops SJSU's record at home to 1-4-1. The team will look to turn things around when they host Nevada on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. PT.
