BOISE, Idaho - Sophomore Claire Berkley scored her first career goal in the 60th minute to snap the San José State University women's soccer team four-game losing streak, defeating Boise State, 1-0 Sunday at the Boas Tennis/Soccer Complex.

"Great team effort against a good Boise State team," said head coach Lauren Hanson. "All players stepped up today and played well. Claire [Berkley] showed why she is one of the best headers in the air and had a terrific goal off a header from the corner kick.

"Our midfield and forwards were huge in keeping possession for us today which resulted in a great road victory."

After a Boise State foul in the 58th minute, Gabrielle Stange served the ball into the 18-yard box. Berkley, the Pleasanton, Calif. native then headed the ball from the right side of the box back into the near right post to beat Kylie Mascol for the match's only marker.

SJSU goalkeeper Zoe Makrigiannis continued her strong play in net for the Spartans, making five saves on the day, giving her a conference-high five clean sheets this season.

San José State outshot the Broncos, 14-13, while the Broncos got the better of SJSU in the corner kicks column, 4-3.

San José State will return home after four consecutive matches away from Spartan Soccer Field to host Colorado State on Friday, October 17 at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday, October 19 to welcome Wyoming at 11:00 a.m.
