Northridge, Calif. --- Playing to overtime has become pretty familiar for the San José State women’s soccer team, and Friday night it happened again. The Spartans and CSUN battled through 110 minutes of action with no score for either side under the Friday night lights of Matador Soccer Field.
“It was a great team effort tonight,” said SJSU head coach Lauren Hanson. “I’m very proud of the way we competed against a dynamic CSUN team. It was a fun and competitive match between two feisty teams.”
It wasn’t for lack of chances on offense as the two teams combined for 25 shots. San José State (2-2-2) put 6-of-12 on goal while CSUN put 6-of-13 on target.
Darriell Franklin and Yaritza Arista each had two shots on goal in a back-and-forth battle with CSUN. Maricruz Chapa and Yvette Cuellar also put a shot on goal, but Matadors’ keeper Jovani McCaskill never let one by.
Paige Simoneau saved all five Matador shots for a season-high. She earned her Mountain West-leading third shutout of the year.

"Paige was excellent tonight," Hanson said. "She made some really great saves for us. It can be frustraiting to not win games, but this team is in a good place right now. And we're very excited to come home after almost a month of playing out on the road."
San José State has played four in a row away from San Jose, and returns home next week for two matches at the SJSU Football Practice Field on Friday, September 16 and Sunday, September 18.
