Six Spartans Earn All-Mountain West Honors; Hanson Wins Coach Of The Year

Lauren Hanson is the MW Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons.

AT SJSU: A two-time All-Mountain West Defender … A Mountain West Tournament (2015) and Regular Season (2017) champion … Played over 1,000 minutes during all four seasons of her career … Part of a back line which helped set SJSU’s single-season shutouts record (7) in back-to-back seasons … A three-time Academic All-Mountain West honoree.

2017: An All-Mountain West First Team defender for the Mountain West Regular Season champions … Helped the Spartans register six shutouts on the year … Played and started all 20 matches registering over 1,700 minutes.

2016: An Academic All-Mountain West honoree … Made 19 starts on the year and played a total of 1,577 minutes … An All-Mountain West Second Team defender ... Part of a backline which held three of the first four opponents of the year scoreless … Helped the Spartans’ defense to a top-15 shutout percentage and a top-30 goals against average in the country during the first month of the year … Played over 100 minutes in a match five different times … Assisted the game-winning goal in the 1-0 win over Sacramento State (8/21) … Assisted one of SJSU’s five goals in the win over Portland State (9/18).

2015: Competed in all 22 matches and made 20 starts … A staple at outside back for the Spartans … Part of a defense that held league opponents to 0.53 goals per game, a Mountain West best … Put four of five shots on goal throughout the year.

2014: Competed in all 19 matches and made six starts as a defender … One of two shots went on goal during the year … Ended the season having logged 1,027 minutes of playing time as a freshman.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE: Was an active member of the Canadian National Training Program ... Represented Alberta at the 2013 Canada Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec ... played on the Alberta provincial team since 2008 ... Played her club soccer with the Calgary Rangers FC 96.

MYIA: Majoring in biology ... Plans to attend optometry school following her undergratuate studies ... Enjoys hiking and acrylic painting ... Watches Game of Thrones ... A native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
