Six Spartans Earn All-Mountain West Honors; Hanson Wins Coach Of The Year

Lauren Hanson is the MW Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons.

AT SJSU: Completed her third season as a Spartan in 2017 ... Two-time Academic All-Mountain West honoree ... The 2017 Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year and All-MW First Team ... Had one of the most productive seasons for a San José State freshman in 2015 when she was a All-Mountain West Second Team and Academic All-Mountain West … Voted the team’s Rookie of the Year in 2015 … Invited to United State U-19 National Camp in January of 2016.

2017: Named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year and All-MW First Team … Anchored the Spartans’ back line that produced seven shut outs, four of which came during conference play … Played in 19 matches and made 19 starts … Tied for third on the team with 10 points … Scored five goals on the year with four coming during Mountain West play … Scored the game-winning goal on the road at New Mexico which was featured on ESPNW’s Top-10 Plays.

2016: An Academic All-Mountain West honoree … Played in all 20 matches making 16 starts … Recorded 10 points with three goals and four assists … Scored goals in consecutive Spartan wins over Air Force (10/21) and Colorado College (10/23) … Season-high three points came in the win over Air Force with a goal and an assist in the 3-1 win … Assisted two goals in the 4-0 win over San Diego State (10/2).

2015: Set the San José State freshman record with nine goals … Finished the year with five game-winning goals and a team-leading 20 points … Booted in the penalty kick at the end of regulation to send the Mountain West Championship match into overtime, and then netted the clinching PK to send SJSU to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2000 … Scored in five straight matches (8/28-9/27) … Hit the golden goal in overtime at Wyoming (9/25), which was the start of a four-match road winning streak … Ended the year with 19 of 44 shots on goal (.432) … Scored a goal and assisted another in the 2-0 win at Colorado State … Finished the season with nine goals, two assists, 20 points and five game-winners in 1433 minutes over 17 starts.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played multiple positions in four seasons of varsity soccer at La Habra (Calif.) High School … a Whittier Daily News first-team choice as a senior … was an all-area selection by the San Gabriel Valley Tribune in 2013 … played club soccer with the Irvine Strikers.

DARRIELL: Intends to major in kinesiology ... Plans to continue her education in radiology school ... The youngest of five children ... Born in Anaheim, Calif., and now calls La Habra, Calif., home.
