Wright Receives Two-Year Contract

SAN JOSE—San Jose State head women’s gymnastics coach Wayne Wright received a new two-year contract as announced by senior associate athletics director Kellie Elliott.

“We are pleased to offer a two-year contract to Wayne Wright,” said Elliott. “His leadership of the women’s gymnastics program and contributions to the department are to be commended. We look forward to this season with great expectations and are glad to have Coach Wright committed to San Jose State with this new contract.”

Wright begins his sixth season as head coach of the Spartan team. He led San Jose State to the only two team invitations to the NCAA West Regional (2006 and 2003). The 2006 team finished a fourth at the NCAA West Regional, the best finish in school history by a Spartan team. The program has made significant strides during his five-year tenure, breaking school records and winning conference championships.

“I am very thankful to Tom Bowen (San Jose State Athletics Director) and Kellie Elliott for their commitment to myself, my staff, the team and the women’s gymnastics program,” said Wright. “I am looking forward to another successful year and continuing to build this program.”

San Jose State opens the 2007 season on Friday, January 12, at UC Davis. The Spartans first home meet is on Friday, January 26, as the team hosts Boise State, Seattle Pacific and Utah State at Spartan Gym. The meet begins at 7 p.m.
