Gymnastics Picked Third in WAC Poll

DENVER The San Jose State women’s gymnastics team has been selected third in the 2009 Western Athletic Conference announced Preseason Gymnastics Coaches’ Poll, as voted on by the six head coaches in the league.

Boise State was selected as the favorite to win this year’s WAC title, earning the top spot with 23 points. The 2008 WAC Champions received three first-place votes for its 23-point total. Southern Utah also garnered three first-place votes, but ended up just one point short of BSU with 22 points. San Jose State captured the third spot with 16 points. Cal State Fullerton and Utah State tied for the fourth position with 10 points each, followed by Sacramento State in sixth with nine points.

The 2009 Western Athletic Conference Gymnastics Championships will take place at Hornet Gym in Sacramento, Calif. on Saturday, March 21.

San Jose State opens the 2009 season on Sunday, January 11, at Cal State Fullerton. The Spartans first home meet is on Friday, January 16, against Brigham Young and UC Davis at Spartan Gym.
