2010-11 Gym Talk - Katie Valleau

Hello Spartan fans! I'm Katie Valleau, and I'm a junior on the gymnastics team. These past couple of weeks have been completely packed, and I'm here to let you in on all the fun we've been having.

Since our last Gym Talk we have really been kicking it up in the gym, putting routines together, having show days and showing off all we have to offer this year. For our show days, the top-six girls on each event show the rest of the team and the coaches a full routine and act as though we are having a practice meet. Everyone has truly put in the extra effort in all of our practices to make this year fantastic. WAC Champions here we come.

As you may have read in Casey McCord's GymTalk, we have team ambassadors this year, the Gadway's.  They are the gymnastics teams representatives for the Spartan Foundation, the amazing people who raise money for all of the scholarships on the team. We are always so thankful of these people, but to really make sure they knew how much we appreciated them, we decided to put on a Spartan Foundation Appreciation Night. We invited all of the members to have an up close and personal day in our gym where they ate appetizers that all of the girls made and watched a night of awesome gymnastics.

The night was a success!  Our team looked great as our vault and beam line up looked better than ever with all six girls on each event hitting their routines and skills. You can take a peek at our team on this special night at http://www.youtube.com/user/SJSUAthletics#p/u/16/zGJLiG4kOm0 and http://www.youtube.com/user/SJSUAthletics#p/u/15/thJ-1T-9Dyg.  It was incredible to talk to all of these people and show them how much we love the sport of gymnastics.

Another fun event we had in the gym was Halloween! Each class dressed up in costume as we always do and had the trainers judge us to vote who had the best costume. The freshman creatively dressed as ninja turtles, the sophomores were M&M's, the juniors were rival teams, and the seniors were Fruit of the Loom. Wayne surprised us this year and decided to dress up as well!  His M&M candy bag costume fit in perfectly with the sophomores. Even with Wayne's added effort, the freshman stole the show and won best dressed. Before we got down to business of practice, we played a couple of games to get into the fun of Halloween.  It was a blast.

Well that's the update! Until next time, Go Spartans!
