2012-13 Gym Talk: Victoria Lark

Hello, Spartan fans!

This is Victoria Lark, a senior from Corona, Calif., here to update you on what has been going on in our lovely world of Spartan Gymnastics. First off, I must say what an incredible journey it has been thus far and I am truly enthused about continuing on and ending my senior year with a bang! I am so thankful for what the program has been to me so far, and it has been a privilege to be a part of the Spartan gymnast journey. As a senior, I would want nothing less than a team that is willing to put its all into making this an awesome year and so far, I have noticed just that! I am surrounded by a group of young ladies that are all so positive and excited about having a great year. Lucky me!

In the gym, we are really starting to focus on getting all of our new skills down and making those and our old ones consistent. Last week, we had a modified skills-only show day and what a great start it was! We had the top ten gymnasts on each event show some skills and let me just say, we had some incredible highlights! Ladies were doing brand new tumbling lines, catching releases on bars, showing solid skills on beam, and landing brand new vaults, and it was quite a fun day. Personally, I was able to show some skills on beam and had a good showing on floor. Some of the alumni Spartans came to watch and it was really exciting to see them support us! The ladies truly stepped it up and proved that we are a team with a lot to offer. Even the alumni said that they were impressed with what we were doing at such an early point in the season!

Although our modified show day was a great start, we all are mindful of how important it is to continue to improve from here. We still have lots of work ahead of us but I am hopeful that it will be a fulfilling year.

As a team, we have been participating and supporting our fellow Spartan athletes by selling programs at home football games and attending volleyball and soccer games. We are all so proud of the athletic department and, furthermore, are proud to call ourselves Spartan athletes. As our homecoming football game approaches next week, I know the entire Spartan gymnastics team is so excited to show our support by participating in a team spirit week next week! It will be a fun way to get pumped about showing our Spartan pride and will bring some more energy into the gym.

Until next time, go Spartans!
