2010-11 Gym Talk - Casey McCord

Hey y'all this is Casey McCord, I am a junior on the SJSU Gymnastics Team.  I am so excited to be telling you about what is going on with the Spartans and kicking off this year's "Gym Talk"!

Although school has only been in session a few weeks, we have all come into this year pumped and ready to go.  We worked hard over the summer, and it shows! After last year we decided as a team that we really wanted to strive for something great.  As a reminder of what we want our team to achieve we came up with the phrase WANTS IT. DOES IT. Seeing this phrase on our new T-shirts and in the gym, it truly reminds us of what we are striving to achieve.

Some of us have new skills to bring to the floor this year which we are really excited to show off this season.  We started our EARLY morning practices this week, which are not our favorites of course, but they are sure to get us up and going first thing in the morning!!  Everyone is looking good, is focused and working hard. It's going to be a great year!

This past weekend, the team got together for our annual off-campus workouts at Lake Tulloch, which is a huge lake in Copperopolis, CA.  It is about a 2 ½ to three hour drive, where we all pile in four separate cars and take a road trip to.  We played a lot of bonding games and got to know each other very well. It was a great time!  One night the Gadways', who play a major role in the Spartan Foundation, invited all of us over for dinner.  The Gadway's will also be our team ambassador for this upcoming season, which we are really excited about!  The dinner was fantastic as we all sat around and got to know each other even more and watched one of our gymnastics meets from last season.

We also went fishing this year, which we have never done before. We had a bunch of girls catch some fish for the first time in their lives.  We also had a great war with Wayne to see who could get who in the water first.  I won that game, of course, but he got some girls in too.  Wayne, Aubrey, and I had a boat war with Wayne as well, and we ended up tipping the boat over... so many great bonding experiences!  It was a lot of fun.

Well that's about all for now - keep watching for the next Gym Talk as we will be keeping you up to date with what we are doing throughout the year!
