Former Gymnast Liz Major Named Assistant Coach

San Jose-Former San Jose State women's gymnast Liz Major has returned to the school and joined the women's gymnastics program as an assistant coach for the 2012 season, announced Spartan head coach Wayne Wright.

"I am really excited to be back at San Jose State," said Major.  "I have always wanted to coach women's gymnastics at the collegiate level.  Wayne and Shella (Martinez) were my coaches, so I am familiar with their coaching styles.  This is a great opportunity for me."

Major graduated from San Jose State in 2007 with a degree in psychology.  She was a four-time San Jose State Scholar Athlete and an Academic All-Western Athletic Conference honoree.  Major competed for the Spartans from 2004-07 and specialized on bars her senior year.

After graduation, Major returned to her home state of Colorado where she received a master's degree in sport and performance psychology from the University of Denver in 2010.  She was a club coach at Aurora School of Gymnastics where she worked with preschoolers through optionals and helped with choreography.

The Spartans host the annual Blue & Gold Exhibition on Sunday, December 11, inside Spartan Gym.
