Tuscallosa, Ala.-----Five gymnasts from the 2008 San Jose State University team and the entire squad were recognized for academic excellence by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women.
Freshmen Shanice Howard and Lily Swann, sophomores Kelli Fournier and Jessica Khoshnood and senior Leah Bigelow were named 2008 NACGC/W Scholar All-Americans. Khoshnood is a two-time honoree and Bigelow picked up her third award from the coaches association. Howard was one of 49 NCAA Division I gymnasts to finish the 2008 spring term with a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average.
To qualify for NACGC/W Scholar All-American honors, a gymnast must have a 3.50 or higher cumulative grade-point average.
San Jose State also was cited as one of the NCAA Division I teams that compiled a team grade-point average of 3.00 or higher.
