Four Spartans Repeat As Scholastic All-Americas

Stanford, Calif.-----Led by three-time award-winner Kelli Fournier, four San Jose State University gymnasts earned repeat honors as a 2009 National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) Scholastic All-America gymnast.

    Bellevue, Wash., residents Fourner (Bellevue Christian High), and Jessica Khoshnood (Newport High), both entering their senior seasons in 2010, Lily Swann from Austin, Texas (Westlake High) and Shanice Howard from Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. (Tesoro High), met the NACGC/W criteria of a 3.5 or better grade-point average for the 2008-09 academic year.

    Khoshnood, a business management major, Swann, and Howard earned their second Scholastic All-America honor. Swann and Howard are kinesiology majors who will be juniors in the 2010 season. Fournier is a nutritional sciences major.

    Last season, Swann earned second-team All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) honors on the vault and posted a season-best score of 9.850 four times in the event. Howard was a first-team All-WAC performer in the floor exercise with a season-best score of 9.875 at the WAC Championships. Khosnood had season bests of 9.800 on the uneven bars and 9.775 in the floor exercise. A balance beam specialist, Fournier had a season-best 9.675 in the event.

    All four gymnasts contributed to San Jose State’s tie for fifth place at the 2009 NCAA West Regional Championships in Seattle, Wash.
