Colorado Springs, Colo.-----Thomasina Wallace, who is joining the San Jose State University women's gymnastics program this fall, is among 24 gymnasts practicing with the United States Junior National Team, July 31-August 3, at the Olympic Training Center.
Wallace, who competed for the Charter Oak Gliders Gymnastics club team, earned the opportunity to be a part of the USA squad with her second-place finish at the 2008 Junior Olympic Championships in Kissimmee, Fla., May 17-18. The Covina, Calif., resident is the first Spartan to train as a member of the USA Junior National Team.
"Thomasina earned the opportunity to work with the Junior Olympics National Team staff and gain access to the best coaches and resources available at the Olympic Training Center," said head coach Wayne Wright, who is in Colorado Springs for the weekend activities.
"She looked really good (the first day), and it was good to see her work out in this environment. Thomasina said she is really excited about coming to San Jose State."
