2013 Gymnastics Team Celebrated At Annual Banquet

San Jose, Calif. – The 2013 San Jose State University women’s gymnastics team was celebrated Saturday, May 4, at the team’s annual banquet. Individual awards were handed out and the Spartans’ three seniors, Victoria Lark, Karlene Simon and Alyssa Telles-Nolan, were honored.

Cassandra Harrison was given the Academic Excellence and Most Valuable awards. Harrison was also named Academic All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and is a 2013 Dean’s Scholar. She was one of two Spartan representatives at the NCAA Corvallis Regional, competing in the all-around.

Julia Greer was honored with the team’s Leadership and Most Outstanding awards. Greer is an Academic All-WAC honoree and a 2013 Dean’s Scholar.

Cami Guyer was given the Team Spirit Award. Guyer was the first Spartan since 2003 to be the WAC balance beam champion when she matched her career-best 9.800 on the beam at the WAC Championships on March 23.

Tauny Shearer was honored as the Most Improved. This season, Shearer competed in all 12 San Jose State gymnastics meets on beam, and earned at least a 9.700 in eight meets. Last season, she competed in just five meets on beam.

Victoria Lark was awarded the Most Inspirational honor. A senior, Lark competed in 10 meets for San Jose State on floor. A four-year Spartan, 2013 marked the first season she competed for San Jose State.
