“I am really happy for the team and myself,” said Minotti.  “I did really well tonight, but there are always things to improve.  There are bigger and better things for our team next season.”

The finish is the best for San Jose State at the NCAA West Regional.  In 2003, the Spartans tied for fifth at Washington.

After a bye in the first rotation, the Spartans started on the bars.  Veronica Porte and Kelsey Spellacy led the team, each scoring a 9.675.  Alise Blackwell received a 9.625, while Renae Moneymaker earned a 9.550.

San Jose State then rotated to the beam and scored a 48.250.  Adriane Mertens led the team with a 9.700, followed by Leah Bigelow and Minotti each with a 9.675.  Amberly Klein had a 9.625, and Porte scored a 9.575.

After another bye, the Spartans competed on the floor.  Minotti led the team with a 9.700, while Klein and Porte each scored a 9.600.  Michelle de Groof scored a 9.575, while Alise Blackwell scored a 9.300.

In its final event, San Jose State scored its highest event total with a 48.325.  Raylyn Cardeno scored a 9.800 to lead the Spartans.  Minotti received a 9.700, while Moneymaker had a 9.650.  Kelsey Spellacy, in her only vault of the season, scored a 9.600, while Porte had a 9.575.

“I am very ecstatic and proud of our team,” said San Jose State head coach Wayne Wright.  “Our seniors set up this team to come to regionals.  They knew what it felt like to go to regionals (from 2003) and had the desire to come back.

“Tonight showed that San Jose State belongs with the best in the country.  We can compete with anyone.  The support from the Spartan fans and the Spartan Squad really helped us this evening.  It was great that everyone was able to enjoy this with the team.  I am just really proud of the team, Doni (Thompson) and Shella (Martinez).  Everyone worked so hard this year in preparing for this event.”
