Donahue, Martin Honored By West Region Coaches

At the NCAA West Regional meet this past Saturday, April 4, two San Jose State Athletics Department staff were honored by the coaches of the West Region.

Spartan assistant coach Meghan Donahue was named the West Region Assistant Coach of the Year. In her second season, Donahue is the team’s bar coach. She coached Thomasina Wallace who is the NCAA West Regional Bar Champion after tying the school record with a 9.950 Saturday night. This year’s bar team tied or recorded seven of the top-10 bar team scores in school history.

“Meghan did a great job this season as our bars coach,” said San Jose State head coach Wayne Wright. “She challenged the kids in practice and kept them focused. This is a great reward for all of her hard work this season.”

San Jose State Senior Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator Stacy Martin was named the West Region Administrator of the Year. Martin, a former Spartan gymnast, is the sport supervisor for women’s gymnastics in addition to being the department’s Chief Operating Officer. Martin has a presence at all home gymnastics meets and assists with the program whenever needed.

“Stacy is a wonderful supporter of San Jose State gymnastics and gymnastics in the west region,” said Wright. “She is very deserving of this award for the all the hard work she does for us and for San Jose State.

Both honors were voted upon by the women’s gymnastics coaches in the West Regional that include the states of California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada and Idaho.
