Women's Gymnastics Advances To NCAA Utah Regional

Indianapolis, Ind.-For the sixth time in school history, the San Jose State women's gymnastics team will compete at an NCAA Regional.  This year, the Spartans travel to the University of Utah for the meet on Saturday, April 7, at the Jon M. Huntsman Center at 6 p.m. MDT.

San Jose State is one of 36 teams competing in six regionals that night.  The top-18 teams were seeded on a national basis, based on Regional Qualifying Scores.  The next 18 teams were then placed in regions, partially based on geographic proximity and hosts.  All-around competitors and event specialists were assigned within their respective regions.

Competing at the regional with the Spartans include Nebraska, Utah, Minnesota, Iowa State and Arizona State.  The Spartans begin on floor, their best event, then rotate to vault, bye, bars, beam and end on a bye.

The Spartans finished fourth at the Western Athletic Conference this past Saturday.  Senior Thomasina Wallace won the all-around with a 39.400 and was named the 2012 WAC Gymnast of the Year.  She was first team All-WAC on floor and bars and a second team selection on vault.  Katie Valleau was a first team selection on floor after finishing tied for second on floor.

Tickets for the regional can be purchased at the Rice-Eccles Stadium Box Office or over the phone at (801) 581-8849.  Tickets are $8.00 for adults and $3.00 for youth and students.
