Women's Gymnastics Selected For NCAA West Regional

Indianapolis, Ind.For the second consecutive season and fourth time in school history, the San Jose State women’s gymnastics team will compete at the NCAA West Regional. This year’s meet is hosted by the University of Washington at the Bank of America Arena on Saturday, April 4, at 6 p.m.

San Jose State is one of 36 teams competing at six regionals that night. The top-36 teams qualified for the meet based on their regional qualifying score from regular-season competition.

Other teams competing at the regional include Utah, Auburn, Illinois, Boise State and Washington. The Spartans begin the meet on the beam, a bye, floor, vault, bye and finish and bars.

The Spartans finished fourth at the Western Athletic Conference Championships this past Saturday night. Thomasina Wallace was named the WAC Freshman of the Year, and six gymnasts received first or second team All-WAC honors for their performances at the meet.

Tickets for the regional are on sale on GoHuskies.com or by phone through the Washington Ticket Office at 206-543-2200. Reserved seats are $10, adult general admission tickets are $8 and youth/senior general admission tickets are only $6.

Six teams, five all-around competitors who are not on a qualifying team and one individual event specialist per event were named to each of the six regional championships. The top-two teams and all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) for each region will receive an automatic bid to the national championship in Lincoln, Neb., on April 16-18, hosted by the University of Nebraska. Also, the event winner at the regional championships will advance (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.
