Wallace Named WAC Gymnast Of The Week For Fourth Time

DENVER For the second consecutive week and fourth time this season, San Jose State women’s gymnast Thomasina Wallace has been named the Western Athletic Conference Gymnast of the Week for her performances over the weekend. Boise State's Sarah Smith has been named the WAC Specialist of the Week for the week of March 2-8.

Wallace, a freshman from Pomona, Calif. (Diamond Ranch HS) won the all-around at Southern Utah on Friday with a score of 39.375. The mark ties for the second-highest all-around score in SJSU history. Wallace tied for first on vault (8.850), won the bars title (9.875) and finished second on floor with a 9.825. Wallace also received her season-best on beam with a 9.825 to finish third. She helped San Jose State to a win over Southern Utah, handing the Thunderbirds their first home loss of the year.

Against Utah State on Sunday, Wallace won the beam with a 9.775 and the floor with a 9.900, her second such score on floor in three weeks. She also helped San Jose State to its seventh 194.000 or better score this season and the team’s 14th win of the year.

Smith, a sophomore from Bakersfield, Calif. (Centennial HS) helped the Broncos tie their season-best team score of 49.175 on floor. Smith bettered her career-best on floor by .050, scoring a meet-high mark of 9.950. The score puts her in the BSU record books as it ties her for the top spot on the all-time top floor marks. The win was the second of the season for Smith.

Other Gymnast of the Week nominees included: Boise State freshman Lindsay Kazandjian; Cal State Fullerton sophomore Alaina Baker; Sacramento State senior Marina Borisova; Southern Utah senior Kellie Dangerfield; and Utah State sophomore Lyndsie Boone.

Other Specialist of the Week nominees included: Sacramento State sophomore Alycia Chan; Southern Utah senior Kellie Dangerfield; and Utah State sophomore Nicole Simoneau.
