Women's Gymnastics At UC Davis With Stanford

After record-breaking and career-best performances last week, the San Jose State women’s gymnastics team looks to keep the momentum going this week. The team travels to UC Davis Friday night for a meet with the Aggies and #3 Stanford. The meet begins at 7 p.m., at the Pavilion.

The Spartans are coming off one of their best meets of the season last week after winning the BYU Quad meet with a 194.850, the second-highest team score of the season. The vault team set a new school record with a 49.100, while Veronica Porte tied the school vault record with a 9.925. Two other Spartans recorded 9.900 or better in the meet Thomasina Wallace with a 9.925 on bars and Alise Blackwell with a 9.900 on vault. Porte won three events, vault, beam and floor, along with the all-around, while Wallace won the bars.

San Jose State and UC Davis meet for the second time this season. The Spartans hosted the Aggies on Friday, January 23, and won 192.350-190.650. The Aggies are 4-6-1 on the season and scored its season-high last week with a 192.350 against Seattle Pacific.

The Spartans compete against #3 Stanford for the first time this season. The Cardinal scored its season-best team score, 197.175 in a win at California Sunday afternoon.

Nationally, San Jose State enters the week ranked 29th, based on the regional qualifying score of 194.010. The vault team is tied for 24th with a 48.750, while bars are 20th with a 48.645. Individually, Wallace is tied for 11th on bars at 9.865, while Porte is tied for 24th at 9.845.
