Women's Gymnastics Looks To Keep 195.000-Plus Streak Alive

The 29th-ranked San Jose State women's gymnastics team looks to keep the 195.000-plus team scoring streak going this Friday night at the 31st Annual Salbasgeon Suites Invitational at #6 Oregon State with  #11 Washington and #38 UC Davis.  The meet begins at 7 p.m., inside Gill Coliseum which also hosts the 2011 NCAA West Regional in April.

National Rankings:  San Jose State moved into the top-30 teams in the country this week after scoring a 195.425 last week at Southern Utah.  The Spartans have a 194.065 regional qualifying score (RQS) to tie Kentucky for 29th.  All national rankings are now done by RQS.  In event rankings, San Jose State is 26th on the vault (48.680), 27th on bars (48.595), 34th on the beam (47.885) and tied for 18th with UCLA on floor (48.815). 


Individual National Rankings:  Two Spartans rank among the top-30 in three events.  Katie Valleau is tied for 11th on the floor with a 9.845 RQS. Thomasina Wallace is tied for 28th on the bars at 9.820 and 26th in the all-around at 38.915.  Lily Swann is just outside the top-30 as she is 31st in the all-around with a 38.740 RQS.


Wallace Honors:  For the second consecutive week, Thomasina Wallace was named the WAC Gymnast of the Week.  Last week, she won the all-around and vault at Southern Utah.  Wallace has three Gymnast of the Week honors this year and was also named the Specialist of the Week in January.


Lee, Wallace Tie Record:  Aubrey Lee and Wallace have received a 9.900 on beam this season, tying the San Jose State record with three former gymnasts.  Lee received her 9.900 last week at Southern Utah to win the event.  Wallace had a 9.900 in the Spartans meet with Boise State, UC Davis and Seattle Pacific.


Beam Team Record:  After a rough start at the beginning of the year, the Spartan beam team broke the school record wit a 49.275 at Southern Utah last week, besting the old record by .225 (49.050, March 2003).  Lee scored a career-best 9.900, while Wallace and Julia Greer each scored a 9.875.  Lily Swann had a 9.825, while Holly Partridge added a 9.800, rounded out by Katie Merritt with a 9.450.


2011 WAC Championships Ticket Information:  Tickets for the 2011 WAC Women's Gymnastics Championships are now on sale through the Spartan Athletics Ticket Office.  The championships will be held on March 19 at The Event Center.  Fans can call (408) 924-SJTX (7589) or 1-877-SJSU-TIX (757-8849) to order tickets.

Fans can choose one of two options for tickets.  Reserved tickets are $10 per adult, while youth 12 and under are $7.  General admission prices are $8 for an adult and $5 for youth 12 and under.  Students from participating institutions with a valid student ID can purchase discounted general admission tickets for $5.
