Women's Gymnastics Hosts Think Pink/Flip For A Cure Meet Friday

In the first of two consecutive home meets, the San Jose State women's gymnastics team hosts Sacramento State and UC Davis in the annual Think Pink/Flip For A Cure meet Friday night. The meet begins at 7 p.m., inside Spartan Gym.

Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the meet in their show of support of breast cancer awareness. Teams will be wearing pink leotards for the meet.

This is the fourth of five times that San Jose State and Sacramento State will compete against each other. The two teams were part of the Flips Invitational where San Jose State outscored the Hornets, 192.400-188.925. The two teams competed at Stanford on February 7, where the Hornets had the higher score at 193.225-192.800. Last Friday night, both teams scored their season bests, but Sacramento State won the meet, 194.225-193.850. After this upcoming meet, the two teams will face off at the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Championships, March 27, in Fullerton, Calif.

San Jose State and UC Davis opened the season competing against each other in Davis. The Spartans won the meet with a 191.800, while the Aggies had a 191.000.

The Spartans are coming off their best meet of the season with a 193.850 at Sacramento State last Friday night. The team posted the 12th-best beam score in school history with a 48.750, and had a season-high 48.500 on vault.

Thomasina Wallace won the all-around with a 39.075, the bars with a 9.825 and the floor with a season-high 9.850. For the second consecutive week, Katie Merritt won an event, this time the vault with a career-best 9.800.

Individual meet ticket prices are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for youth 12-and-under. Youth in their Club Gymnastics shirts or sweats will be $1.00. Seating is General Admission at Spartan Gym. All doors to the facility open 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to every home meet.

Spartan Gym is located in Yosh Uchida Hall, on the corner of Fourth and San Carlos Streets on the San Jose State campus. Fans can park on campus in the Fourth Street Garage. A parking permit can be purchased in the garage for $5.00.
