Women's Gymnastics Cracks the Top-30

San JoseFor the first time in school history, the San Jose State women’s gymnastics team has cracked the top-30 team ranking in the nation and the top-four in the West Region for the week of February 20.

The Spartans had a strong performance at Sacramento State on February 17, where the team scored a 193.625. With that score, San Jose State’s new Regional Qualifying Score is 191.880 which places them 28th in the nation, the highest ranking in school history.

More importantly, the 191.880 RQS places the Spartans fourth in the West Region. The top-18 teams in the country based on RQS will be seeded and paired in to the six regions (three per region). The remaining three teams will be filled from within the region. San Jose State has only participated at the West Regional one time in school history (2003).

“It is exciting to be in the top-third of the programs in the country,” said San Jose State head women’s gymnastics coach Wayne Wright. “But our goal is to make regionals and to keep moving forward and getting better each week."

San Jose State returns home this Friday, February 24, for a meet with UC Davis at Spartan Gym beginning at 7 p.m. The Spartans then take to the road and travel to Nebraska for Master’s Classic on Sunday, February 26.
