After a very successful meet against Southern Utah last Saturday, the San Jose State women’s gymnastics team competes in its final home meet of the season this Friday, February 22. The meet begins at 7 p.m., in Spartan Gym.
Fans should plan to arrive early because this year’s senior class will be honored prior to the meet. Competing in their final season for the Spartans are Leah Bigelow, Raylyn Cardeno, Shina Cardeno, Casey Jay, Greta Leach, Michelle Minotti and Emily Stebbins.

San Jose State is coming off its best meet of the season. Against Southern Utah, the Spartans scored the second-highest team score in school history with a 195.325. The vault team set a school record with a 49.025, the first time a vault team has scored a 49.000 or better in school history.
Individually, the Spartans won or tied for first on every event. Raylyn Cardeno scored a career-best 9.875 on the vault. Alise Blackwell tied for first on the bars, tying her career high with a 9.875. Emily Stebbins was the only gymnast of the meet to score a 9.800 or better on beam with a 9.825. Veronica Porte and Shanice Howard won the floor as each scored a 9.850. Porte scored a season-best 39.150 in the all-around.
Nationally, San Jose State is 28th in the rankings with a 192.065 regional qualifying score. Individually, Raylyn Cardeno is tied for 37th on the vault with a 9.800 RQS. Porte is tied for 53rd on the beam with a 9.690 RQS and tied for 26th in the all-around with a 38.575 RQS.
