San Jose, Calif.-----San Jose State posted its second-highest team score in school history en route to a 195.325-194.800 dual meet victory over Southern Utah.
The Spartans (8-1) vaulted into the lead with a school record team score of 49.025 in their first rotation and kept the lead until early in the final rotation when #15 Southern Utah was on the balance beam and San Jose State was on the floor exercise. Scores of 9.825 or better by the Spartans' final three, Emily Stebbins, Shanice Howard (9.850) and Veronica Porte (9.850), in the floor exercise gave San Jose State the win.
Four different Spartans finished first or tied for first in the individual events. Raylyn Cardeno the winner in the vault and Alise Blackwell, who tied for first in the uneven bars, posted the top scores for San Jose State with a 9.875.
Southern Utah’s Elise Wheeler won the all-around with a 39.200, edging out San Jose State’s Veronica Porte who posted a 39.150. Wheeler tied Blackwell for first in the uneven bars at 9.875.
Other event winners were San Jose State’s Emily Stebbins with a 9.825 in the balance beam and Veronica Porte and Shanice Howard, who tied for first in the floor exercise at 9.850.
