Wallace Receives Third Consecutive WAC Honor

Denver-For the third consecutive week and fourth time this season, San Jose State women's gymnast Thomasina Wallace has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Gymnast of the Week for the week of Feb. 6-12.

Wallace, a senior from Pomona, Calif. (Diamond Ranch HS) won the all-around title in a conference meet at Utah State. Wallace made history for a second time in six days as she broke her own school record in the all-around with a 39.525, breaking her old mark of 39.425 she set just last week. Wallace placed or tied for first in all four events. She tied a career best on vault with a 9.900. She also placed first on bars (9.875), on beam (9.875) and on floor (9.875).


San Jose State competes this Friday night at Boise State, beginning at 7 p.m. MST.

Denver's Moria Martin, a sophomore from Lake Mary, Fla. (Lake Mary HS) turned in a 9.900 on vault for the third time this season in last week's meet at Brigham Young to win Specialist of the Week honors. Martin matched her total of 9.900 or better scores from 2011. Martin also won her third vault title of the season.

Other Gymnast of the Week Nominees: Denver sophomore Melodie Pulgarin Linero won the all-around at BYU with a 39.075 in her first meet back from a back injury ... Sacramento State freshman Kalliah McCartney broke 39.000 in the all-around for the third time in the last four weeks ... Southern Utah junior Caitlin Kennedy scored a career-best 38.725 in the all-around last week ... Utah State freshman Sarah Landes recorded a 39.350, scoring USU's highest all-around score of the season.

Other Specialist of the Week Nominees: Sacramento State sophomore Kailey Hansen scored a 9.825 to tie for fourth on floor against Oregon State and UC Davis ... Southern Utah freshman Rochelle Bernier scored a team-best 9.800 on vault ... Utah State senior Rebecca Holliday was part of a five-way tie for the bars title with a career-high 9.875 in a dual meet against San Jose State.
