Women's Gymnastics Travels to Seattle Pacific Friday

SPARTANS TRAVEL TO SEATTLE ON FRIDAY: The San Jose State women’s gymnastics team takes a trip to Seattle, Wash., to face non-conference foe Seattle Pacific.

ABOUT SEATTLE PACIFIC: The Falcons finished second at last week’s tri-meet at San Jose State with a 190.225. Junior Sarah Sullivan finished second in the all-around with a 38.700. Head coach Laurel Tidal is in her 31st year at the helm of the program and was the 2005 MPSF Coach of the Year.

HEAD COACH: San Jose State head coach Wayne Wright is in his fifth season at the helm of the program. He helped the Spartan program make significant strides during his four-year tenure, breaking school records, winning conference championships and a team invitation to the NCAA West Regional.

Last year, Wright’s team had a 17-5 overall record and placed second at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships. Three of his gymnasts - Jennifer Greene, Greta Leach and Michelle Minotti, qualified for the NCAA West Regionals in the all-around.

XBOX LIVE WAC GYMNAST OF THE WEEK AGAIN: San Jose State women’s gymnast Michelle Minotti has been named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference Gymnast of the Week for February 6. This is the second-consecutive WAC Gymnast of the Week honor for Minotti.

Minotti, a sophomore from Rohnert, Calif., won the all-around with a score of 39.050 against Seattle Pacific and Illinois-Chicago. It was the second-highest all-around score in the WAC this season. Minotti was second on the vault with a career-best 9.825, which was the second-best vault score in the WAC this season. She was also part of the school record-breaking vault team scored of 48.875. It beat the old score of 48.725 during the 2003 season. Minotti tied for first on the beam with a scored of 9.725.
