Wallace Honored By WAC

Denver-For the second consecutive week and the third time this season, San Jose State women's gymnast Thomasina Wallace has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Gymnast of the Week.

Wallace, a senior from Pomona, Calif. (Diamond Ranch HS), broke the San Jose State all-around record as she won the title against Southern Utah.  She broke the Spartan school record with a 39.425, breaking the old record of 39.400 she held with former Spartan Shirla Choy. Wallace won three of four events at the dual meet. She placed first on vault with a season-best 9.850, first on bars with a season-high 9.900 and first on beam with a season-best 9.850. Wallace's performance helped San Jose State to a season-best team score of 194.875 and a win over Southern Utah.

The Spartans travel to Utah State this weekend for a WAC meet with the Aggies this Friday at 7 p.m. MST.  Live stats will be available at www.UtahStateAggies.com as well as live video for a nominal fee.

Moria Martin, a sophomore from Lake Mary, Fla. (Lake Mary HS), was named the WAC Specialist of the Week and led the five-gymnast vault core for the Pioneers at the Burnsley Invitational last weekend, anchoring the event with a 9.950. Martin won a share of the vault title with Iowa State senior Celine Paulus. The duo cleared the remainder of the field by 0.150.

Other Gymnast of the Week Nominees : Denver junior Simona Castro posted a season-high 39.225 in the all-around at last week's home meet ... Sacramento State freshman Kalliah McCartney set a Hornet freshman record in the all-around with a 39.200 ... Southern Utah junior Alyssa Click scored high in five events during her two meets last week, including a 9.850 on beam for her fifth individual title of the year ... Utah State freshman Sarah Landes notched a 39.000 in the all-around  to place third in the event in a dual meet against Arizona State.

Other Specialist of the Week Nominees : Sacramento State junior Nicole Meiller earned her second bars title of the year with a career-high 9.850 against Southern Utah ... San Jose State sophomore Julia Greer won the floor title against Southern Utah with a 9.850 ... Southern Utah freshman Brittney Jensen recorded a career-best 9.850 on floor in a dual meet against Sacramento State ... Utah State senior Rebecca Holliday earned her first event win of her career with a 9.800 on bars in a dual meet against Arizona State.
