Women's Gymnastics At Stanford Saturday Afternoon

After two productive weekends at home, the San Jose State women's gymnastics team travels up the road to #2 Stanford for a meet Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m., inside Burnham Pavilion.  Live scoring from the meet will be available on www.sjsuspartans.com with a link under live stats.


The Spartans enter Saturday with a 6-1 record after scoring a 193.425 last Friday against Sacramento State.  Spartan Thomasina Wallace was the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Co-Gymnast of the Week after winning all four events and the all-around last weekend as San Jose State defeated Sacramento State. 


Stanford is the second-ranked team in the country with a 196.550 average.  The Cardinal lead the country on the beam with a 49.200 average.  Ashley Morgan is the national leader on the floor with a 9.925 average and is second on the beam with a 9.867 average.


The two teams competed last season at Spartan Gym where the Cardinal scored a 196.800, and the Spartans scored a season-best 195.075.  In 2009, San Jose State won a tri-meet at UC Davis, beating the Cardinal 194-700-193.950.


The Spartans return home next Friday, February 11, for the final regular season home match.  The team hosts Boise State, UC Davis and Seattle Pacific inside Spartan Gym beginning at 7 p.m.


In March, the Spartans have the privilege of hosting the 2011 Western Athletic Conference Women's Gymnastics Championships on Saturday, March 19, inside The Event Center.  Be sure to mark your calendar for the WAC Championship and come cheer your Spartans as they go for a conference title!
