Wallace Receives WAC Honor

Denver, Colo.San Jose State women’s gymnast Thomasina Wallace has been named the Western Athletic Conference Gymnast of the Week for Jan. 26-Feb. 1. She joins Boise State’s Taylor Jacob and Southern Utah’s Jenna Vogt who were named the WAC Co-Specialists of the Week.

Wallace, a freshman from Pomona, Calif. (Diamond Ranch HS) won the all-around title in the Spartans’ victory at against Seattle Pacific this past Saturday evening. Wallace won the all-around title with a score of 39.200, which ties her for the eighth-best mark in school history. She also won the individual title on bars with a 9.875, and added a 9.800 on vault, a 9.775 on floor and a 9.750 on beam. Wallace now has the top-two bars scores in the WAC this season and the second-highest all-around score in the league.

Jacob, a junior from Whittier, Calif. (La Habra HS) earned her third win on bars this season in as many competitions, scoring a 9.900 to claim the individual title at a dual meet against Utah State. Taylor's win on bars moves her career wins total to 12 in the event, which now ties her for the No. 4 spot on the BSU all-time career bars wins.

Vogt, a sophomore from White Bear Lake, Minn. (Eagan HS) recorded a career-high 9.900 on floor to claim the individual title at a dual meet against Utah State. The mark helped Southern Utah record a season-high 49.200 in the event.

Other Gymnast of the Week nominees included: Boise State freshman Lindsay Kazandjian; Cal State Fullerton sophomore Alaina Baker; Sacramento State senior Marina Borisova; Southern Utah junior Elise Wheeler; and Utah State junior Heather Heinrich.

Other Specialist of the Week nominees included: Cal State Fullerton sophomore Shelly Cooper; Sacramento State junior Eryn Stubblefield; San Jose State senior Alise Blackwell; and Utah State sophomore Nicole Simoneau.
