Wallace Named WAC Gymnast Of The Week

DENVER - For the second time this season, San Jose State's Thomasina Wallace has been named the Western Athletic Conference Gymnast of the Week for the week of January 23-29. 

 

Wallace, a senior from Pomona, Calif. (Diamond Ranch HS) won the all-around title in a meet against Sacramento State with a 39.375, tying for the second-highest score in school history and her third all-around score of 39.000 or better this season. She scored a season-best 9.875 on bars to win the event. She tied season bests on both beam (9.850) and floor (9.850).

 

Southern Utah's Michaela Chernoch, a junior from Naples, Florida (Baron Collier HS), recorded a career-high 9.900 on the floor exercise to be named the WAC Specialist of the Week. The score garnered a first place finish on the event, marking her second floor title of the season. Chernoch's performance helped Southern Utah to a first place team finish over Utah State and Boise State at the Tri meet.

 

Other Gymnast of the Week Nominees: Denver junior Simona Castro won the all-around with a 39.200 at the DU Tri meet ... Sacramento State freshman Kalliah McCartney scored a 38.500 in the all-around to finish second in a dual meet against San Jose State ... Utah State freshman Sarah Landes won the all-around with a 39.225 in a tri meet in Logan.

 

Other Specialist of the Week Nominees: Denver sophomore Jorie Hall matched her career high on beam with a 9.900 at the Denver Tri meet ... Sacramento State sophomore Kailey Hansen scored a career-high 9.900 on floor to place first in a dual meet against San Jose State ... Utah State sophomore Paige Jones tied for second on vault with a 9.875 at the USU Tri meet.
