San Jose, Calif.-----San Jose State posted a season-high 193.700 team score and senior Veronica Porte captured the all-around with a 39.05 in a three-way women’s gymnastics meet at Spartan Gym.

Boise State (4-1), the 2008 Western Athletic Conference champion, edged the Spartans (4-1) with a 193.900 team total.Seattle Pacific was third with a 189.000.

Porte captured the floor exercise with a 9.875. Porte’s teammate, freshman Thomasina Wallace, was the only gymnast to finish first in two events. Wallace was tops in the vault with a 9.900 and tied for first in the uneven bars with a 9.850.

“We improved our highest score of the season. I was happy overall. It’s not great when you lose,” said San Jose State coach Wayne Wright. “For us, we got a good score and that was one of our goals. So, I was pleased with that.

“Veronica (Porte) had a great meet. She won the all-around. Tommy (Wallace) had a 9.90 on vault. That’s good, but we’re a team.”

The Spartans started strong with top five team scores in the vault at 48.900 and 48.925 on the uneven bars. Boise State, which trailed by .095 at the halfway point in the meet made up ground with on the balance beam. The Broncos scored 48.350 to the Spartans’ 47.600 and out-pointed San Jose State by another .400 for the team victory.

“Vault and uneven bars have been our strong events this year. Hoepfully, we’ll improve on that,” added Wright.

“We started out very strong, but kind of fell apart the last two events. It was a good meet, but we still have a lot to figure out,” said Porte.
