Women's Gymnastics Hosts Boise State, Seattle Pacific Friday Night

After a successful home meet last week, the San Jose State women’s gymnastics team continues at home this week with Boise State and Seattle Pacific Friday night at Spartan Gym. The meet begins at 7 p.m.

Boise State, the defending Western Athletic Conference champions, finished second at the Cancun Classic with a 193.700 on January 2. Taylor Jacob tied for first on bars with a 9.875.

Last season, the Broncos edged out the Spartans at the 2008 WAC Championships for the team title with a 194.925 compared to a 194.725 for San Jose State.

Seattle Pacific competed at the University of Washington quadrangular meet last Friday with Stanford and Sacramento State. The Falcons scored a 188.425 in the meet and were led by Brianna Schwartz who finished fifth in the all-around. She scored a career-best 9.775 on beam.

The Spartans will face both teams again later this season. The team travels to Seattle next Saturday evening for an 8 p.m. meet on the SPU campus. San Jose State and Boise State will compete against each other at Brigham Young on February 20, and at the WAC Championships in Sacramento on March 21.

San Jose State enters Friday night’s meet with a 3-0 record after defeating Brigham Young and UC Davis last Friday night, 192.350-190.650. Thomasina Wallace won the all-around with a 38.800 and became just the third gymnast in school history to score a 9.900 on the bars.

Individual meet ticket prices are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for youth 12-and-under. Youth in their Club Gymnastics shirts or sweats will be $1.00. Seating is General Admission at Spartan Gym. All doors to the facility open 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to every home meet. Current San Jose State students in possession of a valid Tower ID card are granted complimentary admission.

Spartan Gym is located in Yosh Uchida Hall and is on the corner of Fourth and San Carlos Streets on the San Jose State campus. Fans can park on campus in the Fourth Street Garage. A parking permit can be purchased in the garage for $5.00.
