Women's Gymnastics Faces Two Pac-10 Teams Friday Night

With the 2010 season underway, the San Jose State women's gymnastics team competes against some of its biggest competition of the season this Friday night in Berkeley. The Spartans face top-ranked UCLA and host California in a triangular meet at Haas Pavilion, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

This is the first of two meetings between the Bears and Spartans. California visits Spartan Gym, along with Stanford, on Friday, March 5. The two teams did not compete against each other last season. The Bears lost at home to Arizona State this past Sunday.

UCLA enters the meet with a 2-0 mark after winning at Washington last weekend and against Utah at Pauley Pavilion on Jan. 9.

Live scoring is available for Friday night's meet. A link is available on the San Jose State website at www.sjsuspartans.com under "Live Stats" or on the California web site at www.calbears.com.

Last weekend, the Spartans finished behind Boise State at the Flips Invitational in Reno. The team scored a season high 192.400. Thomasina Wallace won the all-around for the second consecutive week with a 38.975 and tied for first on the bars at 9.825.

Next week, San Jose State opens the home portion of its schedule with a meet against Western Athletic Conference foe Southern Utah. The two teams face each other on Saturday, January 30, at 7 p.m., in Spartan Gym. Individual meet ticket prices are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for youth 12-and-under. Youth in their Club Gymnastics shirts or sweats will be $1.00. Seating is General Admission at Spartan Gym. All doors to the facility open 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to every home meet.

Spartan Gym is located in Yosh Uchida Hall and is on the corner of Fourth and San Carlos Streets on the San Jose State campus. Fans can park on campus in the Fourth Street Garage. A parking permit can be purchased in the garage for $5.00.
