Women's Gymnastics Hosts Utah State, Wisconsin-Eau Claire Friday Night

Looking to keep the scores on an upward trajectory, the San Jose State women's gymnastics team hosts the first of three regular season meets this Friday night.  The Spartans face Utah State and Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 7 p.m., inside Spartan Gym. 


Live scoring from the meet will be available on the front page of www.sjsuspartans.com.  The page will go live on the Spartan web site at approximately 6:45 p.m., and will be updated every few minutes.  Fans will need to refresh their page periodically for the most up-to-date results.


San Jose State won a triangular meet last Friday night at Cal as the team needed a strong fourth rotation on the bars for the come-from-behind win against UC Davis and the Golden Bears.  San Jose State had a 192.950 team score in the win.  The bars team scored a 48.850 in the final rotation, tying for the seventh-highest team bars score in school history.  Thomasina Wallace won the bars with a 9.875, tying for the fourth-highest score in school history.  Two other Spartan gymnasts won events - Lily Swann on the vault with a 9.775 and Katie Valleau tied on the floor with a 9.825.


Utah State enters Friday night's meet with an 0-3 record.  The team lost a triangular meet with BYU and Arizona last week and opened the season with a loss to Southern Utah.   The Aggies scored a season-best 192.800 against the Thunderbirds.  Last week, three gymnasts were event winners - Lyndsie Boone on vault, Nicole Simoneau on bars and Cammi Muhr on beam.


Wisconsin Eau-Claire finished third at its own UW-Eau Claire Invite last Friday night.  The team scored a 177.375, and Michaela McCamey won the beam with a 9.475.


Individual meet ticket prices are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for youth 12-and-under. Youth in their Club Gymnastics shirts or sweats will be $1.00. Seating is General Admission at Spartan Gym. All doors to the facility open 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to every home meet.

Spartan Gym is located in Yosh Uchida Hall, on the corner of Fourth and San Carlos Streets on the San Jose State campus. Fans can park on campus in the Fourth Street Garage. A parking permit can be purchased in the garage for $5.00.


In March, the Spartans have the privilege of hosting the 2011 Western Athletic Conference Women's Gymnastics Championships on Saturday, March 19, inside The Event Center.  Be sure to mark your calendar for the WAC Championship and come cheer your Spartans as they go for a conference title!
