Gym Talk - January 18, 2006

Hi and welcome to the fifth edition of gym talk.  I’m sophomore Casey Jay, and I’m here to give you a look into what’s been happening with the team.  We’ve officially begun our season with two quad meets in the past two weekends.

Our first meet of the year, at CSU Fullerton, was a fun trip for the team as well as a great competition.  The bus ride to So Cal is always an adventure, and we got to spend a few hours in Downtown Disney the day before the meet.  We also finally had our team Christmas party where all kinds of gifts were exchanged.  We placed second at the meet and accomplished the goal we set for our total team score, and also beat two conference rivals.

At Stanford this past weekend we came in third, but we improved our team score from the first meet by almost two points.  Our team is continuing to progress as new faces make line-ups and new skills are displayed, such as freshman Renae Moneymaker competing on balance beam and sophomore Shina Cardeno displaying a more difficult vault.

Now that the season is underway, our goals are to stay healthy and keep increasing our team scores, with no backward steps.  We head to Texas this Friday and then have our first home meet a week later.  We appreciate all the support we’ve had so far and hope to see all our fans as the season goes on.  Here’s to a great start!
