Gymnastics Picked Third In WAC Preseason Poll

DENVER - The 2012 San Jose State women's gymnastics team has been selected third with Utah State with nine points in the Western Athletic Conference Preseason Gymnastics Coaches Poll, as selected by the five head coaches in the league.

San Jose State begins the season this Sunday afternoon at the NorCal Quad Meet hosted by Stanford at Burnham Pavilion.  Competing with the Spartans will be UC Davis, Sacramento State and the Cardinal.

Returning gymnasts include 2011 regional floor champion and NCAA Qualifier Katie Valleau, school record holder Thomasina Wallace, beam record holder Aubrey Lee, Casey McCord, Alyssa Telles-Nolan, 2011 WAC Freshman of the Year Julia Greer and Cassandra Harrison.

Denver was selected as the favorite to win this year's WAC Championship title, earning first place with 15 points and three first-place votes.  Southern Utah received the other two first-place votes with 13 points.  Sacramento State rounded out the poll at fifth with four points.

The 2012 Western Athletic Conference gymnastics championship will take place at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah on Saturday, March 24.
