San Jose, Calif.--Marissa Unpingco's performance on beam and the Spartan bars 49.000 team score were the top highlights for the San Jose State women's gymnastics team Friday night in a meet with Boise State at The Event Center. The Broncos won the meet 196.275-193.700.
Unpingco led the beam with a season-best 9.850 to win the first individual beam title of the season for the Spartans.
The Spartan bars team scored a 49.000 to tie for the seventh-highest bars team score in school history. Maddie Herr led the team with a career-best 9.900, the highest score achieved by a Spartan gymnast this year. Kaitlin Won had a season-best 9.825, followed by Alyssa Kaschak at 9.775, Haleigh Shepard at 9.750, Unpingco at 9.750 and Rachel Heinl at 9.725.
The final two rotations caused some problems for the Spartans. The beam team had to count a fall at 47.774. After Unpingco's 9.850, Alisa Bogdan scored a 9.700, followed by Herr at 9.475, Kendal Watts at 9.125 and Won at 8.475.
The floor team ended the meet with a 48.300. Ray led the Spartans with a 9.725, followed by Herr at 9.700, Matos at 9.675, Won at 9.650, Ellie Pascoe-Long at 9.550 and Bogdan at 9.075.
Herr, competing in the all-around for the first time in three meets, scored a 38.850, while Won finished with a 37.625.
The Spartans travel to Sacramento State next Friday, February 19, for a 7 p.m. meet.
