The MPSF Champions honored all academic and athletic award winners.


University Honors Convocation Includes Record-Setting 62 Student-Athletes

For the third year in a row, a record-number of student-athletes are being honored for superior academic performance.

SJSU:  Third year at San José State.

2018: Compete in five meets on floor and two meets on bars…scored a career-best 9.750 on floor in a home meet with Air Force, Central Michigan and Seattle Pacific…added a 9.725 on floor at UCLA…competed on bars in the first two meets of the season.

2017:  Competed in nine meets for the Spartans whether on vault, bars and/or beam…performed on bars in nine meets…had a 9.500 average...season-best 9.850 at MPSF Championships…added a 9.775 in a home meet with Utah State…scored a 9.700 or better in six meets…vaulted twice during the season with a 9.725 at the NorCal Classic…also competed on beam at the NorCal Classic.

2016:  Competed in three meets on vault and beam…season-best 9.750 on vault at Boise State with Southern Utah…added a 9.725 at home against Brown and UC Davis…season-high 9.650 on beam at UC Davis.

CLUB:  Competed for Auburn Gymnastics Center in Auburn, Wash., for coach Brent Phelps…five-time Junior Olympic qualifier…finished 21st in the all-around at the 2015 Junior Olympics…won the bars and floor and finished second in the all-around at the 2015 Region 2 championships…won the all-around at the 2015 Chris Waller’s Heart of Champion and the All-American Invitational…finished second on the floor and third in the all-around at the 2015 Washington Optional state championships…tied for 12th on bars at the 2014 Junior Olympics.

HIGH SCHOOL:  Graduated from Auburn Riverside High School in 2015.

PERSONAL:  A communication studies major…would like to coach gymnastics after graduation…San José State Dean’s Scholar…NACGC/W Scholastic All-American…Academic All-MPSF honoree…likes swimming, cooking and volunteering…Kendal Madison Watts was born in Mount Vernon, Wash.
